French Dual Language Program
Bonjour!
P.S. 110 launched a French Dual Language Program (FDLP) in 2011. Since then, we have graduated 8 classes (as of June 2024).
The entry point for the program is Kindergarten with 2 classes. (There are no dual language classes in Pre-K.) Accepted families are asked to make a commitment to the program and to keep their child in the French Dual Language Program through the end of Fifth Grade. There are limited seats available for French-speaking children in the First Grade and up.
Each French Dual Language class is comprised of two language populations: English-dominant students (Anglophones) and French- fluent students (Francophones). Students learn French from the teacher as well as other students. When there are two French classes in a grade, we utilize the side by side model, one day in English with an English teacher and one day in in French with a French teacher.
Students in the FDLP follow the same school-wide curriculum as all the other, non-FDLP classes. Students are instructed in French and English equally throughout the year in their classrooms in all subject areas. Specialty classes such as: Computer, Music, Physical Education, and Visual Art are taught in English.
