This resource toolkit has been created by parents on the PS 110 PTA French Committee to help other families support their student’s French language learning outside of school. It is not an exhaustive list and we encourage families to choose activities that are relevant to their student. If you have suggestions for other resources that might help our students please send an email to [email protected].
After School Programs
The Monitor Explorers after school program at PS 110 includes several French options:
EFNY (Education en Français à New York), a volunteer-run, not-for-profit dedicated to promoting the French Language in NYC public schools, offers several after school programs for both native and non-native speakers in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Options include French for native speakers, French as a second language, French theater, and Decouverte du Monde.
Fun in Frenchprovides immersive, play-based workshops for PreK-3rd grade that spark joy and curiosity, helping children connect with the French language and Francophone cultures through storytelling, songs, games, art, and hands-on projects.
L'Atelier du Jeu is a French theater program for students in 2nd - 5th grades designed to enhance children’s confidence, self-expression and group collaboration through drama games.
Additionally, Play KidsGreenpoint have French after school programs with pickup from PS 110.
Storyplay*r website for audio books told by native speakers
The Fable Cottage website for children's stories translated into French with optional English translation and slow audio from a native French speaker (free selection)
Netflix has a large selection of French language programming for both children and adults. You can find them by searching for a specific tv show or movie or by browsing the "French Movies and TV shows" genre.
It can also be helpful to watch animated shows (e.g. Bluey, Peppa Pig) that your student already knows in French. You can do this on streaming platforms like Disney + and Prime Video by changing the language to “French” in the settings.
L’Alliance New York language immersion camps (select holidays, midwinter recess, and spring break, for 3 - 8 year olds and summer camps for 1 - 18 year olds)
Please consider your student's level in French when selecting resources. Since many are developed for students in Francophone countries, your student may benefit from a different level than their current school grade.
This toolkit does not in any way indicate an endorsement of these programs by PS 110 or the PTA and the school does not profit in any way from your use of these resources.
